Poker lovers can now legally play Texas Hold'em at Minnesota bars, restaurants, and the like, but with one catch — there's no gambling involved.
Monday night, at St. Cloud's Granite Bowl, they kicked off the first Texas Hold'em Tourney of it's kindin the very same place that was raided a year ago during a tournament which involved no entry - fee and not bets.
While no charges came from the raid, change did.
State Senator (R) Dave Kleis of St. Cloud authored a bill that just became law that allows money - less Texas Hold'em tournaments.
Senator Kleis says "This is where somebody can come and play this game with no money. There's nobody in this room that's going to lose anything, but pride."
Senator Kleis says the way the game is set - up, it's no different than Bridge and he wanted to clarify the law in this area.
By the way, winners collect a prize from the business or sponsor, worth no more than $200.00
